Who We Are
TRUSpanish was founded with one mission: to make Spanish learning accessible, joyful, and truly effective for homeschool families.
We believe that language is not just memorization — it’s connection. Through our Talk, Read, Understand, Write Method, we prepare students for academic success, future opportunities, and meaningful cultural engagement.
As a faith-based program, we also integrate biblical values to encourage character growth alongside language skills.
About the Founder
From the very beginning, my journey with education was not easy. As a little girl, I had to fight for the chance to go to school. My mother worked long hours, and my older sister—who didn’t enjoy school—often made her own rules, which meant staying home. At just six and seven years old, I had to find clever ways to escape and make it to class. Every day was a new challenge, but my determination to learn was stronger than any obstacle.
When my family later moved to a new province, my mother tried to enroll me in school. Without my first and second grade report cards, the school decided I would need to repeat first grade. I was heartbroken—being the oldest in the classroom and relearning what I already knew felt discouraging.
But God had a bigger plan. My teacher, Adela de Santa María, quickly saw that I understood the lessons and finished my work quickly. Instead of holding me back, she promoted me to be her assistant, helping other children who were struggling. When I advanced to second grade, she remained my teacher, and once again gave me the responsibility of supporting classmates. Without realizing it at the time, I was gaining two years of experience not just learning Spanish, but teaching it—right in the most formative years of language development.
Looking back, I see how God used that difficult situation to prepare me. What once felt like a setback became the foundation of a calling: to help others understand and love the Spanish language.
Today, as the founder of TRUSpanish, I carry that same passion into every lesson. I know what it feels like to struggle, but I also know the joy of overcoming and the power of a teacher who believes in you. That’s why TRUSpanish exists—to make learning Spanish accessible, joyful, and life-changing for children and adults everywhere.
I also had the privilege of working with the LA Unified School District, where I trained parents through the School Readiness Language Development Program (SRLDP). In this program, I guide parents to create the right environment for their children’s early language development. This includes taking care of themselves emotionally to be fully present and empowered to support their child’s learning. Parents were deeply impacted and expressed gratitude for the transformation they experienced, becoming more capable and confident in nurturing their children’s language skills.
At TRUespañol, I combine my personal journey, professional experience, and faith-inspired methods to empower learners to succeed in Spanish and beyond. Sonia CI Julio
